On April 17, 2011, KMI partnered with Congressman Kenny Marchant (TX-24) for the 25th Congressional District Art Competition. The art competition allows young student artists the chance to showcase their work locally, as well as the chance to be recognized at the national level for their talent and creativity.
This year, a record-breaking 300 students participated in the competition and had their work displayed in Euless Hall in Southlake, Texas for the admiration of community members.
Trang Tran, a native of Vietnam, is the grand prize winner, submitting an intricate and extravagant pencil drawing of a Texas cowboy. What made this portrait extra touching was that Trang explained that the cowboy in the picture was actually an employee at her school who had expressed his interest in the great Texas pastime.
Trang Tran’s art will be prominently displayed with other winning entries from each district across the country for an entire year in the Cannon Tunnel in Washington, D.C.
The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982. Since then, more than 650,000 students have participated in the competition and the works of thousands of young American artists have been showcased in the passageway to the Capitol.
KMI is proud to sponsor a local program that invests in the creativity and talents of students in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex.
